At first, cycle through the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro and witness day to day lives of the local Chagga people. Get carried away by their culture and gastronomy. Enjoy the unique rainforest landscape with coffee plantations. Immerse yourself in the history of the city of Marangu and its people. The small town of Marangu, at the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, has a great number of ancient traditions. The Marangu route is also one of the most popular routes to reach the summit of the world-famous Kilimanjaro.

Oh, and of course the tranquility!

Lake Challa, on the other hand, is a hidden gem of Tanzania. It is a perfect place to relax and unwind from the busy city life. The remote caldera lake is situated on the border of Tanzania and Kenya. As it is also very close to Moshi, it is, therefore, a perfect getaway for a day. Pure tranquility and beautiful nature await you at the lake. You can explore the area on one of the many possible hikes. Or you can swim in the crystal clear water or kayak across borders!. Simply enjoy the stunning vistas of untouched Africa.

Day 1 - Arrive in Tanzania

You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred to Keys Hotel near Moshi town situated at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Today you will meet your guide who will brief you about your upcoming tour and together you will do the bike fitting. For those arriving on the morning or afternoon flight, you will have ample time to go for a quick test ride through Sugar cane plantation. Today, only dinner is included.

Day 2 - Moshi to Lake Challa

In the morning your guide will pick you up from your accommodation. You will ride the bicycle to Lake Challa Safari Camp with a packed lunch box and drinking water. Upon arrival, you will see the beautiful private game reserve overlooking the crater lake Challa. Our guide will take you down to the lake. You can spend the day swimming in the lake, exploring the area or kayaking. You will experience the natural beauties of the green scenery, landscape and will also have the opportunity to meet local people doing their daily activities. There is a very high possibility of spotting the baboon monkey, velvet monkey, blue monkey, antelopes, elephants and many different birds, that live in this wonderful savannah land. We will spend the overnight in the camping site. There is also a bar serving all kinds of beverages and a restaurant that serves snacks and main meals.

Day 3 - Lake Challa to Marangu gate (17 miles)

In the morning we will ride our bicycle to Marangu Gate (6200 ft), the starting point for all Kilimanjaro treks via the Marangu Route. You will have the opportunity to take pictures of the mighty Kilimanjaro and get a sense of the spirit of the highest mountain in Africa. The area around Marangu is home to the local Chagga tribe and you will learn all about their history and traditions on this full-day excursion. Our second stop will be a visit to a small coffee farm, where you will learn everything about the coffee, harvesting, and processing procedures. You will have the opportunity to try processing, roasting and preparing a fresh cup of coffee yourself. Once you have finished enjoying your coffee break, we will depart for the Ndoro Waterfalls. Our hike to the base of the waterfall will lead us through a lush green landscape and the descend will take approximately 1 hour. Here you have the opportunity to relax and take a refreshing bath in the waterfall pool. Another highlight will be the visit to the Chagga underground caves and the Chagga live museum. In times of drought, the Maasai migrated up the lower slopes of Kilimanjaro, in search of food and water. They enslaved and killed the local Chagga people. In defense of these attacks, the Chagga built an extensive network of underground caves. Your guide will lively illustrate you the conflict while you visit the caves. We will then continue and spend some time at the Chagga live museum, which is a small outdoor museum, that will give you further insides into traditional Chagga life. Our tour also includes a Chagga culinary taste, when we will stop for lunch in a small restaurant. Here you will be served a traditional hot meal. Later on, you will also have the chance to try the local spirits such as banana beer and wine. We will spend the overnight at Kinukamori Campsite.

Day 4 - Marangu to Moshi

In the morning we will start our ride to Moshi, passing through different villages at the slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro.
Riding level for today is moderate to challenging, as the trail os mostly off roads, some parts are also paved.

Day 5 - Departure day

We will take you back to the airport at the time of your flight.

Your safety is their number one priority, closely followed by your enjoyment of the tour. They will always be on-hand to answer any questions or requests you may have throughout your trip. We choose our guides for their expertise in outdoor activities. They are experts in their fields.
We only run small group adventures to ensure that everyone has the best experience possible and not get lost in the crowd. There will generally be between seven and 14 people in each group. The minimum number of people we require to run our tours is four.
Our tour caters for a wide age range, typically between 30 and 60 years old, but age is simply a state of mind, as they say, and we welcome anyone over the age of 18! 
Tours are designed at your own pace and you will enjoy no matter what your age.

Each evening your guides will chat with you about the following day’s activities and give you an idea of the sorts of trails you can look forward to. If there’s anything you feel anxious about, your guides will be happy to discuss it with you.
We recommend following a general training in the weeks leading up to your trip.
Your guide will be very happy to give you some bike skills training during your trip to help improve your confidence and your enjoyment of your bike adventure. 

As fellow sports enthusiasts, we understand the comfort you may find in riding with your own gear. Due to things can get a bit challenging when it comes to traveling please consult our booking manager prior to departure.

Q. Will I have to carry my own luggage?
You will never have to worry about your bags on tour. You only need to carry a daypack with you whilst riding. We have a support vehicle and driver who will transfer your luggage to your next accommodation each day, and have it ready and waiting for your arrival.
On your holiday you will be staying in a range of comfortable, welcoming local accommodations, including traditional guest houses, small hotels, and a boutique hotel. For details please consult with your booking manager.
Traveling light is the key. Although the daytime and nighttime temperatures can vary in the mountains, so you must make sure that you have plenty of layers of breathable clothing to ensure that you are always warm enough and can remove a layer if you get too hot. 
You should also bring cycling shorts/trousers, gloves, padded undershorts, waterproof jacket, flip-flops, specific shoes for cycling.
Where the meals are included in Bikehiketours itineraries they are in a group setting. 
Your Bikehiketours guide will also be with you during these scheduled meals. 
During the meals that are not included in the itinerary, you are free to choose where you would like to dine. Your guide will advise you the best places to dine for these meals. You can choose to join with others and decide to dine together somewhere or, if you desire some independent time, you are also always welcome to do your own thing.
Medical insurance is mandatory on all of our holidays. We also recommend trip cancellation insurance. Contact your booking manager and we will help you choose the right plan for your holiday.
Many of our travelers join as singles. We charge single supplement fee to solo travelers for single room use. But don’t worry, we can pair you with another traveler of the same gender if you like.


A single supplement is an additional charge for a private room for guests traveling alone.
The cost of our holidays does not include international airfare. However, we are happy to assist you in booking flights to join with each tour. The prices vary depending on the season and the point of departure.
We can arrange early arrivals and extended visits. We will be happy to provide suggestions and ideas.
The more in advance you book, the greater availability of dates you’ll find.
