Additional information

Day 1 - Buje, Croatia

Meeting point is Buje, a small village in Istria, where we will begin our tour with a great local diner. After, we will take a rest and get ready for the next 3 days of easy biking.

Day 2 – Buje - Motovun

After breakfast, we will start biking (on macadam) on the legendary route of the Parenzana. This is the former narrow-gauge railway line which penetrates deeply into the Istrian peninsula. It connects 33 Istrian towns between Porec and Trieste. Today, these towns belong to the territory of 3 different states. Passing through the magnificent rolling landscapes and lively Istrian vineyards, it will soon become obvious why it was also known as the wine railroad. After riding through many tunnels and over old bridges, we will stop in the charming town of Grožnjan.  This typical Istrian medieval town sprout high on the top of a hill along the right coast of the river Mirna. Almost every door in Grožnjan leads to some art studios or galleries. Everywhere around the town echoes the sounds of different music genres, from classical to jazz. It is not hard to understand that Grožnjan is known to be “The town of artists”.

Later on, we will continue our tour and visit few more interesting villages on the way, such as Završlje and Livade. Livade is the truffle center of Istria. The truffle is an underground malodorous fungus believed to be an aphrodisiac.

Our final destination will be the most famous and attractive Istrian medieval hill-town Motovun. Motovun is an ancient city and is probably the most charming town in Istria. Today, it is most famous for its annual Independent and Avant-garde Film Festival.

We will stop along the way to taste different local delicacies.

Day 3 - Motovun - Poreč

The next part of the trail goes inland. It follows the road to Višnjan, where we will pass an observatory. The road continues to the town of Višnjan, which has 246m altitude. From there, you will be able to have a view on the west Istrian coast and the coastal town of Poreč. This town will be our final destination of the day. Along the way, we will also stop and visit Cave Baredine.

And again, we did not forget about the second most famous Istrian specialty. The food. We will taste some great Istrian cuisine all along our way.

Day 4 - Poreč - Kanfanar - Rovinj

Today’s adventure will once again follow the old railway Parenzana track from Rovinj to Kanfanar, through the untouched forest, just south of the Limski fjord. It is an exhilarating section, immersed in the forests of oak trees, strawberry bushes, heather and many broom plants. All along the trail, you can smell a deliciously sweet perfume. We will return to the civilized world when we will reach the magnificent coastline near Rovinj. This town is also called the little Venice. Rovinj is a typical Mediterranean seaside resort, which will seduce you with its extraordinary beauty. In the middle of its narrow streets and small squares of the old city center, there are several beautiful palaces from different historical periods. Also, there is a wonderful promenade with many seaside cafés. Here, we will stop for a drink or a quick snack.
